WHAT TO EXPECT:

Plan to smile and laugh a lot. This movie is creative, colorful, interesting, and will pull at your heart strings. The creators were quite clever in their majestic characters and plot development. I really want a “Land” created with most of the scenes from Onward in the Disney Parks to pretend like I’m living there and on my own “quest” in the parks.

It’s a Pixar movie, there’s a loss of a parent. But, this movie dives into this subject in a magical way that I think kids of all ages may find interesting. Onward approaches parental loss from a few different aspects in a gentle way that feels safe to watch. I have not lost a parent but I thought viewing this movie, they pulled real-life feelings to the characters. With this, you are able to see them in their “new normal”.

WHAT I LOVED:

Being a HUGE Pixar (and Disney) fan, I love to believe in magic. Onward is about believing in magic, bringing back a little fantasy, mystique, and some mythical characters back in the world. Thank you! I’ll take a magic wand please.

I appreciated how many messages were intertwined in Onward. Speaking from your heart, mean. It started as kind of a joke to create a spell, but truly, what was said, was true brotherly advice.

I loved all the fun characters! Hello, Pixies. They cracked me up! And the unicorns? Hilarious. I can’t wait for Halloween to see all the Onward costumes. Pixie squad!

CAN YOUR LITTLE WILDERNESS EXPLORERS SEE THIS MOVIE:

I think Pixar hit a home run with this movie. I don’t think it’s too much for young wilderness explorers: the thrill factor is a little high in a couple places but that’s what your arm or hand is for, right?! The villain is not too scary or dark. There are a couple jump scares but those are abruptly followed up by laughs for distraction. The subject of a loss of parent is portrayed in a delicate way.

Overall, this movie is hilarious, heart warming, full of mystique, and might even encourage you to have a self talk about trust, support, believing in magic, believing in yourself, and what it means to be a leader.

SO, DID I GIVE 5 OUT OF 5 BALLOONS:

Yes, 5 balloons, I loved it and all of us loved it. My mom liked it; so, it’s not ringing in the love factor for everyone.

“Onward” releases in theaters on March 6, 2020.
